Economy grew at 3.5 percent rate in 4th quarter of 2006
The economy and grew with a 3.5 percent pace in the final quarter of last year as consumers started spending despite a painful housing slump. The Commerce Department underscored the resilience of the economy; it has managed to keep on moving despite the effects of the residential real-estate bust and an ailing automotive sector.
